89. En un artículo sobre el penoso estado de la carretera central recordé el sentido de un comentario mío distribuido a través del correo electrónico poco antes de la segunda vuelta presidencial. Traía a colación que en aquel junio de 2006, al tener a Alan García y Ollanta Humala como únicos contendores, los peruanos no teníamos otra alternativa que elegir al menos peor...
Ayer, dialogando con un amigo pendiente como yo de lo que nos deparará el 2011, le manifesté que si dentro de año y medio tenemos compitiendo a Alejandro Toledo y Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, los peruanos por fin habremos de saborear la facultad de escoger al mejor...

# 88, on Obama avoiding Berlin nowadays

88. On recent November 9 president Obama preferred to stay out of the 20th ceremony commemorating the fall of the Berlin wall. After having seen him rushing to Copenhagen in order to lobby for Chicago as an Olypmpics site, one wondered why he didn't make much effort to take part on such a historic event.

However, a further analysis shows us that the current White House host wanted to avoid paying tribute to the biggest power broker for the end of the Soviet imperialism & subsequent Germany's reunification: Ronald Reagan.

87. The US unemployment rate -nowadays at 10.2%- is tilted to keep growing mainly because Mr. Obama's policies tend to substract instead of adding jobs... He will need to turn back or heavily fine-tune on promised initiatives like the new Health Care reform and Cap & Trade program which are prone to bring plain and stealth taxation to job-creating businesses...

# 86, sobre García y el "apoyo" de la ONU...

86. El presidente García se explayó el domingo 25, aprovechando la tribuna editorial que le brinda el diario limeño El Comercio, para resaltar los positivos índices que consigna un estudio de las Naciones Unidas sobre el avance peruano en materia social... Menos mal, como para tomar las respectivas pinzas en su justa medida, reconoce que antes de evacuar esos resultados los "expertos" del organismo supranacional estuvieron "trabajando" durante varios meses con 120 profesionales peruanos...
Es inocultable que dicha "certificación" ayuda a García en su agitado esfuerzo por atenuar la sensación de rampante corrupción e ineptitud que viene despertando su 2do período gubernamental en la percepción popular... Sin embargo, los mejor informados saben que la ONU es un organismo internacional aquejado por una corrupción e ineptitud de niveles globales y por tanto suele producir "estudios" y "resultados" a pedido del "cliente", máxime cuando aquellos han sido elaborados y pagados en estrecha coordinación con los burócratas de turno...
Al final de su artículo García resalta casi taimadamente que esos "logros" no se tendrían si los peruanos se hubiesen equivocado el 2006... Así razonamos muchos en aquel junio; pero a estas alturas no podemos evitar ver que su desempeño no pasa de ser "el menos peor"...

Barack Obama still sounds like the many demagogues around the world, with the difference that he needs a teleprompter to speak beautifully out the nice discourses his speechwriters crafted...
It will be fatal if he leads America & the Free World based on what a bunch of loony Norwegians prefer...

# 85, sobre el persistente descuido de la Carretera Central...

85. Hace una semana el actual ministro de Transportes y Comunicaciones peruano, muy suelto de huesos, soltó la siguiente aseveración a los medios: "Se hacen trabajos de mantenimiento periódico de 661.48 kilometros de carreteras con una inversión de S/.314 millones 306 mil 894"... Al leer ésto no pude dejar de recordar el último viaje que hice a Huánuco en agosto cuando atónito observaba el persistente penoso estado del tramo Chicrín-Tingo María... A esto se suma que a la altura del kilómetro 103 (no demasiado lejos de Lima y poco más allá de la zona llamada Infiernillo) en el último verano se erosionó la 4ta parte de la pista y hasta entonces no se había producido una reparación... Adicionalmente, también no muy lejos de Lima hay varios puentes (como el de Matucana) cuyas alcantarillas de metal de entrada y salida están destrozadas hace más de medio año constituyendose en huecos que dañan los vehículos...

One of the main beneficiaries will be the biggest lobbyist inside the White House, his top counselor Valerie Jarrett...

83. Close relatives who moved to Canada several years ago and who in the meantime have become Canadian citizens would love that I join them overthere... However, not the tough climate is my major deterrent but the socialization process initiated by Obama in the USA which will cripple also the Canadian economy in the years ahead...

# 82, sobre Mario y el chef

82. No leo el diario peruano El Comercio por falta de tiempo; pero hace poco pude revisar de casualidad una edición de marzo último visitando a mis padres en Huánuco. En aquella a través de un artículo titulado "El sueño del chef" Mario Vargas Llosa hace un recuento del exitoso devenir de uno de nuestros maestros cocineros más prestigiosos. Sin embargo, su explicación en uno de los últimos párrafos sobre el porqué la cocina peruana es tan prodigiosa me dejó con ganas de acotar. Que sea producto del autoritarismo, que constreñía la inventiva de los peruanos en la mayoría de campos, es de orden marginal. Yo creo que la cocina peruana es una de las mejores del mundo por 2 grandes razones: por un lado la bendecida biodiversidad de su territorio que ya aprovecharon sus habitantes desde tiempos milenarios y por otro debido a la simbiosis de gente del más diverso origen que fue enriqueciendo su potencial creativo.

Gladly, Spain's president José Luis Rodríguez -mainly known by his second surname- showed a last minute restraint and backed off today from the announced indictement under leadership of investigating judge Baltasar Garzón of 6 former officials pertaining to the George W. Bush government... Said indictment would have hurt the special relationship between the USA and Spain which was brought to a higher level during the tenure of his predecessor José María Aznar...
Had Zapatero persisted in his misdeed we should have insisted in asking why he didn't indict dictator Fidel Castro at first place for having confiscated and even ordered the assassination of Spaniards who lived on the island where Guantanamo is just a geographical part of...

# 79, sobre el estado de la carretera central

79. A raíz de mi artículo sobre el deplorable estado de la carretera central a lo largo de casi 200 km entre el poblado de Chicrín en el departamento de Pasco y la ciudad de Tingo María en el departamento de Huánuco, miembros del MTC y ProVías me han mencionado que la esperada refacción está programada a partir de este abril.

A fines de diciembre y comienzos de marzo tuve que viajar nuevamente a Huánuco acompañando a hermanas que venían a pasar unos días en Perú. Deseo compartir enseguida algunas fotos que documentan mi reclamo.

President Obama has passed only a third of this period and he deserves also not be harshly criticized yet... He shall be advised though to put an extra effort not to appear as he were improvising... There are several signals about it... 76. The visit of my youngest sister and enchanting nephews who happen to live in Canada since 2001 brought me to spend the last 4 weeks between Huánuco and a beautiful beach southern of Lima... Luckily I could find more time up yesterday afternoon to follow this years Presidential Inauguration...
First things first though, I want to express my gratitude to now Former President George W. Bush through an article I've already started to work on and -as stated today on my Facebook page- I wish President Barack H. Obama Junior all the best... After watching him on some of the official balls though, I warmely hope he can govern much better than he dances...
